One does not get too many opportunities to wear a saree in everyday life when you're living in the Western world, so when you do, you make it count.

Just yesterday, I was draped in electric blue, channeling my inner Bollywood diva for a girls' night filled with music, laughter, and memories. And today, on India's Independence Day, I had the joy of wearing this beautiful organza saree inspired by the colors of my beloved tricolor.

Born in India and shaped by its rich culture, traditions, values, and countless memories, I feel incredibly grateful to carry a piece of my motherland with me wherever life takes me.

Living thousands of miles away doesn't weaken that connection. If anything, it makes me cherish it even more.

There's something special about wrapping yourself in a saree that reminds you of home. It's more than just fabric. It's identity. It's heritage. It's memories of family, festivals, celebrations, and the values that continue to guide me every day.

Today, I wear my heart proudly. I wear my roots proudly. I wear my India proudly. 🇮🇳

A saree, a tricolor, and a whole lot of love for the country that will always be home.

A Treasure in Black & Gold...

 There is something about black and gold .. it is just mesmerizing!! This satin feel saree is a new find at Kurticonenction at a very decent price, Love this treasure indeed!! 

                

I found this saree a few days ago & am very proud of this find .. a saree which is silky to the skin and satin to my soul.. aur kya chaiye .. went to a dear friend Renuka's house for ganpati darshan, Aarti & prasad and met some other saree sakhees there who are silent admirers and just enjoy our posts .. it’s amazing to see how saree speak is known in my extended friends circle now .. As a dedicated saree speak member dutifully encouraged them to wear one, post pic and do a write up for SS post.. let’s hope it works .. also met my dearest Tannavi there, cannot tell you how happy I was to see her there !!! Renuka had yum south indian idli sambhar which I love.. Sweets in the prasad were just out of this world... 

       

                          

                                

For me .. Comfort thy name is Saree.. people wonder how I manage to wear so many sarees in the states .. well it’s my state of mind ..Whatever is good for my soul, I do that and then Life is better when you're laughing… choice is yours . I think this is a chiffon silk with beautiful brocade border .. this festivities are making me try out different colors of sarees from my closet that I generally am not known for .. and I am loving it 

Later on went to a neighbor friends Ganpati (yet again.. yes we have so many celebrations here in Chicago!!! ) There my neighborhood gang was wearing sarees and indeed it was a treat to the eyes..

Laugh so hard that Even the stars are jealous of the sparkle in her eyes .

Paired it with my blue heavy blouse and I do fee every bit of what I wanted to be !!

The Annnual Chicago Tradition : Satyanarayan Katha

 When it’s orange skies and the color reflects in your saree it’s just the best feeling in the world .. 

During these times a lot of us are trying to do their best but it is natural to feel gloomy and few low .. we are humans .. at the same time make sure you uplift your spirits by thinking of all the positives that come along too.. as I was discussing with one of my saree sakhees the other day! 

 My inner ज्ञान mode was on this Monday .. 

I live in the moment ..  ..जो बीत गयी वह बात गयी!  I always look what I have and what can be done  .. that’s just my perspective on life .. we all make some decisions that may or may not end up being in our favor .. This is how I see it .. it’s not mistakes .. don’t call them mistakes .. it’s life experiences and I value them since they make us who we are today .. what is right /wrong is very perspective and context driven.. if some one else is judgmental that’s not my problem .. that’s his / her problem! 🤪 and please don’t make your problem my problem! 💕

आज के लिए थोड़ा ज्यादा ज्ञान हो गया !!!!  .. but felt like I can share it .. it keeps me going .. why not help some of the others too.. 

Saree of the day was : orange silk I think with heavy embroidery in the border .. it’s a gift my from MIL when I went last dec to India .. specially bought for my annual Satayanarayana katha here in Chicago .. we did it this year too without my regular dhoom dharaka .. bhagam bhag .. it was a unique experience with just the 3 of us and Pundit ji and mere Bhagwan ji! 🤩 

I still decked up as have done every year .. the bangles .. the nath .. the maangtika ... the jewellery.. do what you can .. right? .. made me feel Good ! 

Evening prasad had my Neighborhood families in my backyard and loved every moment of sharing the prasad .. still in process of stepping out every eve in mask to deliver satnarayan katha prasad to those who I could not call due to COVID times .. !

It’s a beautiful day .. of fasting and feeling good ...

We should look forward to what we have and treasure them all the more .. it’s not easy but we need to try!
The same feeling I get every teej and karva chauth.. why do I do it .. answer is right in front of me .. just my faith tht what I do today is important and symbolizes something special for me.. it’s a part of my belief .. my mayka culture ( hartalika teej ) and sasural culture ( karwa chauth ) and I love celebrations and sarees and jewellery so why not celebrate companionship and love and the institution of marriage .. applying Alta and bichiya and nath is tradition so loved every moment of it!!
I totally can be the girl who looks so serene and then be the jhakas me .. bubbling with high levels of energy .. see it yourself in the pics in comments .. the fasting has mellowed my energy a bit .. .. fasting with no water ( Nirjala) today and made special gujia’s for the first time .. waiting for tomroow to taste it all.. the sunset and the sunrise both are imp in life
Same way I can totally be the girl who deals with tough clients at work in the corporate world and and be the one who cooks and cleans and sambhalos my house .. no one is perfect in this world, so all we can do is feel good about what we do with conviction and spread positivity
Saree of the day is : red chiffon with beautiful parallel Gota lines in anchal and the border .. loved the color red and the look of this one hence chose to wear it today !
